Frequently asked questions
Everything about the M-Cabin Line models.
Construction, fittings, delivery and permits — the questions we hear most often before a decision. Can’t find what you’re looking for? We’re happy to take the time to discuss it with you personally.
Are the models suitable for year-round living?
Yes. These are high-quality modular timber and panelised timber models with the insulation and equipment required for a comfortable indoor climate all year round — warm in winter and cool in summer. They are manufactured under cover in the factory, protected from moisture, using certified materials. Additional insulation can be added where required. The models can be approved in Switzerland, and we adapt them where necessary to meet the energy compliance requirements of your municipality or canton.
What can the models be used for?
They can be used as year-round homes, holiday homes, offices, shops, micro-hotels or guest accommodation. We tailor the floor plan and fittings to the intended use — for rental and hospitality, we specify more robust materials and finishes.
What experience does the manufacturer have?
M-Cabin Line is developed and manufactured by HUSLine, a producer of timber-frame and modular houses with more than 10 years of experience, over 440 completed homes and its own factory in Lithuania. HUSLine specialises in high-quality Scandinavian timber construction; alongside standard modules, it produces custom timber-frame houses, modular houses and roof structures for delivery throughout Europe. Soldanella is your contact in Switzerland and handles planning, approvals and on-site implementation.
How are the models constructed?
The M14, M24, M28 and M54 models use panelised construction, while all Loft models use modular construction. Both are prefabrication methods; the difference is the degree of factory completion and how much work is carried out on site.
What does panelised construction mean?
Wall, floor/ceiling and roof elements are manufactured in the factory as separate sections, complete with external and internal layers and factory-fitted windows. On site, they are lifted onto the foundation by crane and joined together. The sections are up to 13 m long, 3 m high and 2 tonnes in weight, making them transportable and suitable for lifting with a standard crane. The advantage is that, because the elements are assembled on site, these cabins can be more than 4 metres wide — a width that could not be transported as a finished module.
What does modular construction mean?
In modular, or volumetric modular, construction, the house is manufactured as a complete module with all four external walls, internal partitions, roof and floor, plus the full external and internal fit-out. Electrical wiring and water pipes are installed in the walls and floor during production. The finished module is then loaded onto a trailer or low-loader, depending on its size, and transported to site. Once unloaded, only a small amount of quick finishing work is required before it is ready for use.
Which foundation is needed?
Because the modules are relatively light, simple foundations are possible. Depending on the ground conditions, model and intended use, these may be screw or point foundations, with strip foundations used for some larger models. We determine the appropriate solution after assessing the site and can carry out the work on request.
How are the models heated?
Underfloor heating, an air-to-air heat pump and heated towel rails can be specified at the factory. For permanent residential use in Switzerland, we design the heating system for each project according to the size, use and location, and to meet the energy compliance requirements of your municipality or canton. We will advise you on the most suitable solution.
Can I choose the fittings myself?
Yes. You can add a kitchen, shower set, WC, lighting, underfloor heating, cooling and other options to your model so that it is ready to use on arrival. If our standard options do not suit you, you can leave them out and complete your own fit-out or install alternative equipment.
What design and façade options are there?
The gable-roof design is intentionally conceived as a complete architectural concept, designed to sit comfortably within its surroundings and alongside an existing house. Colours and external finishes can be freely selected. We show you the available combinations and advise which options best suit the site and your municipality’s requirements.
Can the floor plan and fittings be adapted?
Yes. Every base model can be adapted to individual requirements — including changes such as adding or removing a window. We discuss these changes during the initial consultation. Several fit-out levels are also available at different price points. If a model requires fundamental changes, we move to a custom-build project, where there are no limits to the design.
Can a terrace, pergola or carport be planned as well?
Yes. We design terraces, pergolas and carports to suit the model and plot and include them in the building permit application from the outset, so everything can be approved as part of a single process.
Can the structure be adapted to snow loads?
Where required, the structure is adapted to local snow and wind-load requirements so that the models can also be approved in high Alpine locations. We clarify the requirements for your site before the building permit application is submitted.
Where are the modules made?
The modules are manufactured at the HUSLine factory in Lithuania and delivered throughout Europe. In Switzerland, Soldanella handles planning, approvals and on-site implementation.
Can I view a model beforehand?
Yes. Show homes can be viewed by prior appointment; we hold consultations in our office in Zurich.
What is included in the price, and what costs extra?
The price shown applies to the selected model and version — Base or Comfort — and is a guide price. When you request a quotation, you receive a firm price. Site-specific costs such as foundations, utility lines, transport, lifting or crane work, permit fees and landscaping are calculated for each project. Every item is listed separately in the quotation.
Are the models suitable for renting out?
Yes — glamping and holiday rental are core uses for the range. For rental use, we specify more robust materials and easy-care furnishings. Our Tourism page includes an example payback calculation.
